Who Does Art Therapy Help?
Below you will find an answer to the common question: who does art therapy help?
Art therapy is defined as a discipline that utilizes plastic and graphic art expression as a means of facilitating the expression of feelings and thoughts that an individual may be unable or unwilling to verbalize. The goals of art therapy are based on each client's diagnosis, capabilities, needs, and interests. In art therapy, emphasis is placed upon the creative process, rather than upon the finished project.
Art therapy, administered by an educator who has been trained in this creative process, can be used to help a wide variety of people. It is typically used with adults as well as children.
Children are usually eager to be "creative" in a therapeutic session, but adults tend to need a bit of convincing. Nonetheless, art therapy can be an effective form of intervention for just about everyone. Art therapy can be a great way for us to express ourselves in ways we may have never thought possible.
