How does Forensic Science find Scott Peterson?

The answer, which may surprise some, is not guilty, according to some experts. Many feel that Scott Peterson was portrayed as a "killer" through the media, and that this potrayal led to a self-fullfilling prophecy as the world tended to believe that he was guilty of the murder.

According to experts, Scott did not meet the criteria to be a sociopath which would be capable of murdering his own pregnant wife and unborn child. Upon examination of Scott's background, there did not appear to be evidence that would point towards him being capable of such a horrific act.

How does forensic psychology and profiling help to solve crimes?

Typically for most criminals there is some aspect of their history that affects their behavior, leading them towards a life of crime. Examining this history can prove very enlightening when making an assessment of that person. Basically it is up to the individual whether or not they will commit a crime. Sometimes people from a seemingly "normal" background can end up being a murderer.

Whether or not I believe Scott Peterson committed these crimes I will not say. Certainly much more goes into a trial than reviewing a psychological profile. I am sure that many convicted killers do not meet the "criteria" of a sociopath. What then makes a killer? This is a question that will continue to be debated among professionals everywhere...
